... first calcs! ... banglo asmadi!

 ...

Today we did the first design checks for the first glulam house in Malaysia (architect rendering pictured).  The house has two portions, structurally: glulam arches front to back with cable bracing between the arches in front and left (cables not shown in this rendering), with the remaining portion post and beam (with wall bracing).  The design checks were using the Meranti (hardwood) species, 40mm lamination thickness.  Design checks were performed using MS 544 Part 3 (Malaysian Standard for Glued Laminated Timber).  More info to follow ...

(It was actually fun doing the calcs!)

Dear sdra., glad to see you all made the first step into commercial glulam banglow design in the country, after we all at the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) put up a few demo structures as early as 1976's. The glulam structures within FRIM mosque still stand strong after more than 35 years. Cheers. Dr. Tan (FRIM).
