Study Guide ...

What to study ... well,

1.  Everything I wrote on the board.

2.  Everything I said, especially if I said it two or three times, or more.

3.  Make sure you can go from area load to line load ...

4.  And from line load to maximum bending moment, and end shear and reactions.

5.  Be able to go from bending moment to extreme fiber bending stress, f_b (through use of the section modulus, S).

6.  Be able to handle Board Foot Measure ... for boards, dimension lumber, timbers, AND GLULAM.  (See earlier blog posts, etc.).

7.  Be sure you are clear on the following terms: Design Value, Allowable Stress.

8.  Make sure you have the NDS Supplement with you (2005) ... and can find what you need in it.

9.  Bring your calculators.
